Wensley's Cycles join Surf to City for 2024

Entries for Southland’s favourite participation event, the Wensley’s Cycles Surf to City, are now open.

The March 10, 2024 event welcomes a new naming rights sponsor - iconic Invercargill bike shop Wensley’s Cycles - along with media partners The Southland Times/Stuff and NZME’s The Hits and Hokonui.

The Wensley’s Cycles Surf to City can be run, walked, biked or anything in between and features 12km, 6km and 3km options.

Wensley’s Cycles is a passionate supporter of Southland sport and owner Rob McMurdo said he was excited to be involved with the Surf to City.

“We are a family business and this is a great family event. It’s such a great event for encouraging families to get out and be active together.”

Active Southland chief executive Vanessa Hughey-Pol said Wensley’s Cycles was a great fit as naming rights sponsor.

“We know how much Wensley’s has contributed to the Southland community over the years and it’s fantastic to have them onboard for Southland’s biggest participation event. We love how passionate Rob is about the event,” Hughey-Pol said.

“We are really fortunate to have a loyal family of sponsors who make this event possible, from category sponsors the ILT and Rothbury Insurance, through to the Invercargill City Council’s Community Wellbeing Fund, Shoe Clinic Invercargill, TBI Health and the Elles Rd and Windsor New Worlds.”

The Wensley’s Cycles Surf to City is one of Active Southland’s premier events, Hughey-Pol said.

“We love putting this event on for the community because it’s about a lot more than being active, it’s about supporting Southland to be more connected and resilient - and the smiles on people’s faces when they cross the finish line are priceless,” she said.

Next year’s Wensley’s Cycles Surf to City is on March 10. Registration is now open on the events page at activesouthland.co.nz

The Wensley’s Cycles Surf to City also has new Facebook and Instagram pages.
